New brighter look for Rosyth streets in anti-crime initiative

Houses in Rosyth are getting a new look to combat crime in a bright idea that will see gable ends on a housing estate painted in a new white coat of paint.

Six houses in Sherbrooke Road and two in Esmonde Court are to receive the new look, as well as having new 'white light' lamposts installed in the streets.

The aim of the increased brightness is to help reduce problems such as anti-social behaviour and car crime.

Council locality manager Lynn Hoey revealed the Home Scotland-led initiative at a recent meeting of Rosyth Community Council.

Harry Heritage says

re the painting of the gable ends white, I'm sure that the vandals are shaking in their boots at this great deterrant, looks a good idea  I would say it was a great way to encourage spray painting on a clean surface. Good job by the council boffins, plenty tax payers money to throw away, where do they think them up?

Jacqueline Fleming says

I am in total agreement with Harry Heritage.  White walls, clean canvas. The white wall with new white lights will create a lighter area which in a perfect world would deter kids hanging around gable ends on housing estates. I fear though that most kids who are out to cause trouble don't care who sees or hears them!
